Six Sentence Sunday 1-30-11

Today's Sexy Six comes from my novella, "Sodom and Detroit", coming from Loose Id this summer. One of our leading men is about to spend some time living out our leading ladies fantasy. They are in a Virtual Reality simulatoin of her choosing and design. In this case, she is the leader of a biker gang and she has 'captured' Raven and is about to make him her sexual slave. Meow ;)

The object of his love and lust screeched to a halt in front of him and her eyes grew dark with desire. This is how it had always been between them, an instant attraction that hadn't dimmed over time. Instead of a leather jacket, she wore some type of chainmail mesh top that hugged her generous breasts and her hips rocked against the seat of the red Harley as it vibrated beneath her. Black leather pants cupped her ass and her long black hair hung free down her tanned back. So beautiful, his heart skipped a beat as she smiled at him.

"Hello, Raven," she purred out and he knew he was in trouble.

Today's sexy six comes from a rather erotic novella that should be coming out in June or July. Here our leading lady is about to become someone's afternoon delight.

Nerves had her licking her lips, but Luke's intense gaze pinned her to the spot. He was handsome, but it was his absolute self-assurance that drew her to him. She found confident men totally sexy and seductive.

"Would you like to play rough with me, beautiful?" he asked in a seductive purr while his long fingers worked the button of his suit jacket.

She sucked in a quick gulp of air that did nothing to decrease the delicious tension. "Please."

Deciding to 'Come Out' as an Erotic Romance Author

Little background on me. I decided to start writing in June of '10 after the pre-mature birth of my third son. He was born at 31 weeks, nine weeks early, and it was a very rough delivery. I lost a great deal of blood and had some touch and go moments. While I was recovering from my c-section, without my baby, I had a lot of time to think. In my morphine pumped induced state, I considered all the things that I'd done and what I still wanted to do.

I'd had A LOT of fun in my life, and marrying my husband and having my children was a joy that I can never fully explain. One thing I'd wanted to do was write a book. I've always been a heavy reader, my husband used to moan at my monthly bills from the bookstore, and I have an over-active imagination. The trouble was focusing my ADD 'Oh look a squirrel, oh look a penny' self to sit down and write.

I'll post later how I went from a totally clueless hot mess of an writer in June to my first and second book contract in January in another post. -An author is a writer who didn't give up.-

Back to smut! :D So as I started to refine my style more, I realized that I liked writing about sex...a lot. I enjoyed the emotion of it, the pulse pounding sensations it induced, and how important it was to my stories. I began to experiment with different combinations of genders/fetishes/etc. Sex has never been a taboo subject to me. I feel like I have a European view of it, it's just not that big of a deal. I'd be more ashamed of writing books with gratuitous amounts of violence than I ever would be writing about explicit sex.

Problem is, not everyone feels this way. ;) I use the term 'smut' jokingly, but there are people out there who would be quick to judge me and condemn me for some of the things I enjoy writing about. I adore love, and I personally think the love between a man and a woman, a man and a man, and any combination of consenting adults is amazing. I'm strictly a on man one woman monogamous person myself, but I enjoy talking to people who have thriving non-traditional relationships. As different on the surface as they are, the common basis of love equalizes them.

I tossed and turned as to telling my family about it. I'm a really bad liar and I forget to keep the lie going. As I've gotten older I pride myself on being myself. I try to avoid putting on airs and pretending to be someone I'm not. For me, hiding what kind of books I write would have been pretty much useless. It would have come out in some way, and my extended family would have to deal with not only the fact that I write erotica, but also that I lied to them. These people weren't my bosses that would fire me for writing erotica, they were my family and deserved my honesty and respect. I wouldn't want to be blind-sided by the news and I'm sure they wouldn't either.

Unacceptable.

So I bit the bullet and told my Mom that I write romance. She then proceeded to talk about throbbing loins and heaving breasts and I ran screaming from the room. Then I posted some erotica on my blog, knowing that my family would probably read it. I told my brother's and sister's I write smut, and told them I'm not ashamed of it. I also sent them samples of my work with the nookie whited out. ;) There are some things you just don't want to know that your siblings think and/or read. Did some of them freak out? Yeah, they probably did. But they love me enough to keep any hurtful thoughts to themselves. Though I'm sure it was the discussion of more than one dinner table with shocked gasps and titters. ;)

My books are not pornography. If someone wants a stroke book they will have better luck with a Dear Penthouse. I enjoy world building, creating a story with living and breathing people that will stay with the reader long after the book is done. I love creating romances with depth and passion, and I enjoy giving my characters some amazingly fantastic hot sex. :D

To my fellow romance writers, be proud of who you are and what you do. It takes a HELL of a lot of talent and hard work to get published. Don't let anyone take that away from you by dismissing your writing as 'just smut'. Tell them 'Yes, it's smut...but its fantastic smut!'

Love,
Ann

Six Sentence Sunday 1-15-10

This weeks six comes from my WIP that's going through its last round of revisions before heading off on submission.

Her inhibitions melted away on a tide of desire and she was filled with the clarity of need. Asher would take care of her. She could trust him and stop fighting against the desire. All she had to do was convince his mind to do what his body wanted.

"Asher," she purred out and relaxed in his grip as he tried to hold her away. Using the trick of leverage, she straddled him and arched her back, her breasts inches from his face.

Six Sentence Sunday 1-8-11

This weeks sexy six comes from my newly sold novel! In Natalia's world, love and lust come in many forms. Lucky girl. ;)
This is how I picture the main character, Natalia. A young woman living in 1870's Russia with a rather unusual pedigree.

Lust rubbed against her and stroked at the shadowy essence of her soul. Ressi held her eyes and brought Natalia's fingers to her breast, holding them over the surface of her ridged nipple. "Touch me, please."
Everything but her lust faded. Her hand shook as she stroked the tip of her finger over the woman's stiff nub. The soft silk of her gown slid over the hard bump and she followed the curve to where the puckered skin met the smooth breast.

My First Sale!!!!

I sold my first book!

Can't go into details, yet, but on Friday evening I was stalking my emails, as usual. I've been having a great discussion with Publisher X and greatly enjoyed their candor and willingness to answer questions. For a beginning author, it is fabulous to find a group of people who don't leave you in limbo and actually communicate with you. This courtesy extended to actually letting me see a portion of the acquisition editors request that she sent in to see the full of my 'The Book.' Below is the first line blurb that made my day/week/year. :)

'The Book' is good. It's always a breath of fresh air when you get an author who seems to know what she's doing.

After getting polite rejections, great but it's not for us rejections, close but no cigar rejections, this was amazing. :) That snippet alone would have kept me going for another two years.

Back to 'the call' or in my case 'the email.' I saw a response from Publisher X and thought it was just another nice update. It was, in terms of the publishing world, only two weeks after I sent my full in. Usually, that means they read it and quickly decided it wasn't for them. Sighing, I opened my email and choked. Then giggled like a school girl. Then clapped. Then interrupted my children playing with puzzles by doing a weird free style happy dance-note to self, attempting to break dance after five years of not dancing is bad-. Instead of the word I instantly scan for, unfortunately, it was a thumbs up!

I leave you now, after 4 hours of sleep, to go stare at the acceptance letter some more. No matter what, DO NOT GIVE UP! If you don't try, you have a 100% chance of failure. Yeah, rejections suck, but you learn from it and MOVE ON. Keep writing, keep working at it, and most of all keep believing in yourself.

Happy New Year!

Today's six sentences come from a paranormal romance novel that could very well be available in the near future. ;) I hope you enjoy it. This book is based off of a dream I had about the main man. He was my professor and I was sitting in his class trying to listen to his lecture. I 'knew' we had something going on, on the sly, and the knowledge of our forbidden tryst turned a boring class into a tension filled heat fest. There is something delicious and decadent about love affairs that must remain a secret for whatever reason that does it for me every time.  Here our leading lady sees her new Professor for the first time in class and sparks fly.

She had a brief impression of firm lips and arched brows, but it was the eyes that captured her. Amazing, he was beyond anyone she had ever imagined existed outside of a book.
Deep and heated, his eyes traced her lips and she could feel his touch, like a phantom press of flesh stroking over her mouth. His gaze dropped lower and the ethereal touch traveled on, moving down her neck like the stroke of a finger, pausing at her junction of her neck and shoulder to place a gentle bite. Her breath came out in a soft hiss when his gaze returned to hers. Hunger, heat and need all swirled in those green depths.
